Hickory Smoked Surf & Turf

Hickory Smoked Surf & Turf

I don’t think there is anything that brings you together like cooking and sharing a meal with a little wine. Tonight we used a table top grill that I have named Buster the Pig. We put mushrooms, sweet onions, shrimp, scallops and Sirloin steak over high heat and Hickory Smoke.

Ingredients:

1 lb large shrimp

1 lb scallops

1 lb sirloin steak

1 8oz. package fresh mushrooms

1 medium sweet onion

Hickory Chips

A few dipping sauces of your choice. (I used Chipotle Raspberry BBQ Sauce, Lemon Garlic Butter and Teriyaki-Honey)

Directions:

Buster is a charcoal grill and for this you need a hot fire. Be careful placing your grill on the table top so it doesn’t burn your table. I place a stone cutting board under mine. (The only thing I could ever figure out for this thing as I would NEVER run one of my knives across it. The above picture shows a wooden one, it burned up.) Soak your Hickory in water for at least 10 minutes, then drain. (IF you don’t drain it you will put a charcoal fire out and that will put a real damper on your Date Night Dinner.)

Cut the sirloin steaks into thin strips, this is easier to do if the meat is almost frozen. Session the meat like you would to grill. I just used a steak seasoning. Clean the shrimp, scallops and mushrooms. Place everything in bowls putting them around the grill where you both can reach them.

Light your candles pour the wine and using chop sticks or food forks start cooking. When things get to the doneness you like pick it and dip it…

Date night at our house is special, my wife and I have set one night a week just for us. It’s our date night. We usually put something special on the grill but sometimes we cook inside. We always eat outside on our patio. We have done it with a bit of a rainforest theme, little lights, candles, lanterns and surround sound. We enjoy a little wine, or strawberry margaritas using frozen strawberries for ice, good food, music and sometimes a dance or two…

Remember that a recipe is simply an outline; it is not written in stone. Don’t be afraid to make changes to your taste.

Take it and run with it….

Enjoy
